Why break a goal into daily sales?

"$1,000 a month" sounds big and vague. "11 sales a day" is a number you can track, test and improve. Breaking a monthly goal down to sales per day, and then per product, shows you very quickly whether a plan is realistic. It also tells you which lever matters most: raising profit per sale, adding more products, or getting each product to sell more often.

The formula

Sales per month = (monthly profit goal + monthly fixed costs) ÷ profit per sale
Sales per day = sales per month ÷ 30.4 (average days in a month)
Sales per product per day = sales per day ÷ number of products

Worked example

You sell printed books that earn about $3 profit each and want $1,000 a month. That is $1,000 ÷ $3 ≈ 334 sales a month, or about 11 a day. With 30 books in your catalog, each book needs to sell only about 0.37 copies a day — roughly one sale every three days. With just 3 books, each would need almost 4 sales a day, which is much harder. This is why many sellers focus on building a catalog instead of relying on one product.

How to use the results

Frequently asked questions

What counts as "profit per sale"?

The money you keep from one sale after platform fees, payment fees, printing or production costs and shipping. Do not use the sale price.

Is this realistic for a new side hustle?

The calculator shows what the math requires, not what will happen. New shops and listings often sell slowly at first, so treat the result as a target to work toward over several months.

Why does the calculator use 30.4 days per month?

365 days divided by 12 months is about 30.4, so it gives a fair daily average across the whole year.
